The Bioprocess Laboratory has a long history in industrial biotechnology related R&D. While aiming at a reduction of the experimental effort required for an improvement of whole cell biocatalysts or enzymes, we developed a micro‐compartmentalization technology based on gel‐carriers (aka nanolitre‐reactors or NLRs) for highly parallelized cultivation and flow‐cytometric analysis of microbial libraries. NLR‐protocols usually feature high assay accuracy (CVs of < 10 % have been achieved) and high throughput (several 100’000 screened microcolonies per day).

We will grant the ROBOX consortium access to NLR‐platform, develop HTP assays for the evaluation of heterologously expressed  CYP450 enzymes, and execute the screening in order to identify activities for an increase of the robustness and / or selectivity of CYP450 monoooxygenases.
